Dale's Donut Factory

On a trip to Stevensville, MI, we stopped in for donuts at Dale's. They have the usual suspects here, but they are baked and fried right behind the counter. So tasty. I have a weakness for plain cake, and cinnamon sugar is #2. OH man this was good. They open at 5 so usually we miss the raised glazed but my husband managed to get some a few days later at about 7:30. Couldn't even get a photo before it was almost gone!
We will miss you, Dale's Donut Factory. See you in my dreams.

Hot Milk Cake

See the awesome way the cake stuck to the pan? Lesson learned: butter AND flour your pan. The cake itself was sort of tough and spongy. Not very sweet. It tasted ok though. I'm going to chalk this one up to a lame recipe and not my questionable baking skills.

First there was 'Night of the Living Donut'

This one was my husband's idea. Honestly, I'm much better at executing the ideas of others. And also copying stuff. I mean, not copying, its an HOMAGE.

hot donut

This is something I'm working on for the owner of Cockadoodle Doughnuts. I know, what an awesome gig, right?
I started off with a pinup girl body and a giant donut head, but it was far too creepy!

Then I wised up and gave her a donut body. Much cuter. Hot, even.

yum.

hello!

So, here's the caged tomato blog. I'm not very good at keeping these things up to date, so we'll see! I think I might start trying to cook some of the recipes from my vintage files and cookbooks, and post the results here. Also, of course, stuff I'm working on for my etsy shop! Big plans, big plans.
I have been wanting to make a pineapple upside down cake for, like, ever, and I finally did it this past weekend, happy mother's day to me! It turned out ok, my cast iron skillet was too big so it was a pretty flat cake, but it tasted alright. Not great.
I used this recipe, but omitted the rum, cause I like my booze without food. And thought it best not to give my 4 year old any!
Hmm, I might need to work on my food photography also, this looks like it's right out of a 70s cookbook.
